Sacagawea is celebrated December 20 to honor the daughter of a Shoshone chief who was a part of the expedition to explore the Louisiana Territory. The NAWSA (National American Woman Suffrage Association) adopted Sacagawea as a symbol of women’s independence and worth.

Kwanzaa is an African American Holiday celebrated December 26 through January 1. It’s a holiday that celebrates family and community. It was created in response to the Black Freedom Movement’s efforts to demonstrate their understanding of their practices. They celebrate with feasts, dances, music, and colorful candles that represent their seven principles.

International Solidarity Day of Azerbaijanis is celebrated on December 31. It’s a day to celebrate the collapse of the Berlin Wall, as well as the solidarity of the Azerbaijanis, when their borders were dismantled. Many public festivals are held throughout the country for them to celebrate together. They use this holiday to show all Azerbaijanis are united in spirit.
