Put your hand on your pocket. Pull out your iPhone. Look at it, think about all it does to make your life easier. Now if you want to know about the man behind your iPhone and other Apple products, Jobs is the perfect movie. It can soon be viewed on DVD but is no longer in theatres.
Jobs is an interesting movie, about an interesting man. Ashton Kutcher plays the infamous Steve Jobs very well. Not only does he master the walk and demeanor of Jobs but also looks eerily similar to him. People see Kutcher as the pot smoking, goof from ‘That’s 70 show’ but after portraying Jobs’ inspiring acid trip, stint in India, and start up of Apple you forget all that and believe Jobs is reborn.
The downfall of Jobs is that it fails to mention something as all biopics do. His involvement in Xerox, Pixar, and creation of Next are all left out. It also leaves out the part of Jobs life were he marries his ex girlfriend and re-unites with the daughter he abandoned. In the movie he’s with her, they have a baby that he denies is his, they break up in one of Jobs “freak out moments” then after Apple he welcomes them back into his life. The film addresses none of their reunification, they’re just there in his life as the scene changes.
The film received horrible ratings from sources like Rotten Tomatoes(2.5/5 stars) and IMDb(3/5 stars). They say that the film is not accurate and that it lacks the essence that was Steve Jobs. Other reviews spoke poorly of Kutchers portrayal of Jobs.
“I actually really enjoyed the movie and thought Ashton was a really good Jobs. It was cool to see the man behind my iPhone,” said Emily Hochstedler ’14.
I tend to agree with Hochstedler and give Jobs 4 out of 5 apples!
